Ana Popovic
ANA POPOVIC, aka “The Serbian Scorcher”, is one of the most lauded guitarists in American blues music. This five time Blues Music Award nominee developed her fiery technique and ear for New Orleans blues while growing up in Belgrade during the dissolution of Yugoslavia and the fall of communism.
Ana’s extraordinary guitar and songwriting skills have carved her a place in the male-dominated blues genre. She was the only female guitar-player in 2014’s Experience Hendrix, an all-star, nationwide tour celebrating the music of Jimi Hendrix and featuring artists such as Billy Box, Buddy Guy, and Zakk Wylde.
Ana’s last two albums, Can You Stand The Heat (2013) and Unconditional (2011), both earned multiple Blues Music Award nominations and were selected as a USA Today “Pick of the Week”. Three of her albums, Can You Stand The Heat, Unconditional, and Still Making History (2009) were in Billboard’s Top Five of the bestselling blues albums in America. Her killer live shows have also earned her recognition overseas. She won the 2011 “Best Blues DVD” award in 2011 and was nominated for the “Best Overseas Artist” at the British Blues Awards.
Ana continues her hot streak with her most intimate and personal album to date, Blue Room, which was released in May 2015. It was recorded with her father Milton Popovic and was inspired by the nightly blues jam sessions that took place in their modest 11th floor apartment in Serbia during Ana’s childhood. The father-daughter team worked with producer Jim Gaines (Stevie Ray Vaughn, Carlos Santana) to record their roots blues favourites.
“The Serbian Scorcher” is sure to light Victoria on fire!
